NB--All routes are regularly used by cyclists but this does not necessarily mean a Right of Way exists. Please take care when meeting other route users particularly pedestrians and equestrians.

The Halls Route
The description starts at Sainsbury's store, Hazel Grove. but can be accessed at any point on the Route.

1. Cross the A6 into New Moor Lane at the side of the Phoenix pub and in approx 300mtrs, immediately after the bridge, turn right into Barlows Lane South. Soon after the road becomes a track, turn right at a T junction of tracks and on past the yellow barrier .

2. On reaching the houses, go through the opening in the metal fence, immediately turning left along a gravel path which shortly passes allotments on the right.


3. Soon after a low bridge, the path meets a road which cross, into Hexworth Walk, with the Shady Oak pub a few mtrs down on the right. Keep on the Fred Perry Way until the path meets a road (Bridge Lane).


4. Turn left and then immediately right into Headlands Road. Proceed to the sharp bend at the bottom and join the bridleway to the bridge at the river. Cross the bridge and turn right, following the right hand path back to Bridge Lane where turn left to the roundabout.


5. Turn right at the roundabout (signed Stockport) passing the gate to Bramhall Park immediately on the left. (Refreshments can be bought in the Park, at the Stables Cafe behind Bramall Hall). Fifty mtrs after the Park gate, just after the electricity substation on the right, turn left onto a footpath into the Park and then immediately right uphill into the woods.

6. Continue until the path meets a road (Bramhall Park Road) and turn right, uphill. After lOO mtrs turn left into Linney Road and after another 100 mtrs turn right into Tenement Lane, soon passing the Bromale pub on the right.

7. Proceed to the next T junction. Route (a) below has a 300 metre section which is very muddy after rain, when route (b ) is advisable. (a) Turn left. After 150 mtrs turn right at the March Hare pub entrance road. Keep immediately right and follow the Ladybrook Valley bridleway to the bridge where keep straight on.
(b ) Turn right and immediately left into Twining Brook Road, keeping left after 50 mtrs. Turn left after house number 53 into a passageway, turning right before the bridge.

8. Continue on the right bank of the river until the path meets a road (Demmings Road), Igoing straight across into the trading estate. Turn left after 50 mtrs and join Old Wool Lane, continuing ahead onto a footpath where the Lane bends left. Turn right when the path meets a road {Cheadle Road).

9. After passing the golf course on the right, turn left into Valley Road which winds uphill to a T junction.. Turn left and shortly turn right, past the pitch and putt, into Bruntwood Park. {Cafe here recommended.)


10. Pass the front of Bruntwood Hall and proceed to the Park entrance, turning right onto Schools Hill, past Ladybarn House School on the right and downhill to a T junction.

11. Turn left onto Wilmslow Road, and left again immediately after Broadway onto a path which follows the right hand river bank to a bridge. Cross over to the left hand river bank and in 50mtrs fork left, keeping an open field on your right, until the path reaches a road.

12. Turn right and proceed 150 mtrs to a main road junction. Turn right and in 200 mtrs turn left into The Crescent. After 100 mtrs turn right at the junction and in a further 200 mtrs turn left into Brook Road passing The Drill Hall on the right.

13. Pass under a bridge onto a footpath, turning right where the path meets a road and continue past the Alexandra Hospital on the right to the next road junction (Manchester Road).

14. Turn right and continue until just after the railway bridge where turn left into Newlands Road and proceed though Abney Hall park, passing a pond on the left. At Abney Hall continue between the buildings, bearing left to a junction with
Manchester Road again.

15. Turn right, cross the motorway and turn right onto the river path immediately after crossing the River Mersey. Proceed along the path with the river on your right, keeping right at the sitting area with the leaping fish sculpture, eventually going under the motorway and then passing the Co-op Bank "Pyramid" building.

16. Keep on the Trans-Pennine Trail, following Town Centre signs under a blue bridge, keeping the river on your right, to a semi-circular stainless steel seat where bear right around the trading estate and up shallow steps ( cyclists dismount and carry the bike ) to meet a road (King Street).

17. Turn right over the bridge. In l00 mtrs turn left at the traffic lights towards the viaduct, turning right after 100 mtrs into Viaduct Street.


18. Turn left at the junction, under the viaduct, to traffic lights at the Plaza Theatre where go straight across into Chestergate passing the White Lion pub and Underbank Hall (The NatWest Bank) bearing left to a junction in 100 mtrs.


19. Turn right past Jessops and ASDA, to traffic lights where turn left. In 150 mtrs turn right over a cobbled bridge and immediately left to Waters Meeting (where the Rivers Tame and Goyt join to form the River Mersey). Bear right under the motorway bridge and immediately left over a footbridge. Turn it:nmediately right onto the river path. As a road comes into view (Tiviot Way) fork left: up to the Pelican crossing.

20. Turn right, onto a marked cycle path, to traffic lights, where turn left into Reddish Vale Country Park (using the right entrance signed "TPT Reddish Vale") and continue uphill to a sandy track. Two hundred mtrs after passing though an illuminated tunnel, turn right at boulders, steeply downhill -CARE. Pass under the motorway bridges and turn sharp left to a mill where turn right onto a road and continue to a road junction.


21. Turn left, uphill to traffic lights where turn right into Osbourne Street. After 300 mtrs turn right, signed Bredbury Hall, soon passing the Hall entrance on the right and continuing on a dirt track, past the farm
